asked on

error configuring form for email

"This form cannot be configured to sen results via e-mail, the web site may be located at a disk based location, or on a server that has not been configured to send email."
I have checked the frontpage server extensions and they seemed to be set correctly

Hi,

Do not create the form that you want to send to the email on a disk based web.  It means don't create it on your computer.

You have to open your web LIVE then create the form live.

This form needs a webserver with SMTP facilities.

Just open you web live from the INTERNET not from your localhost. Then create the form.

In this case it will work.

Also, make sure you have setup the email section of server extensions with a valid smtp server.

The form is on the web server.  I have done all this checked the server extensions, setup the valid smtp server. I tried setting it up on another server installed the new 2002 server extensions and had the same result.
How are you attempting to view the form?

Make sure you access the form via http://... so we ensure it is processed via the webserver. If you are viewing by opening the website directly from the drive and attempting to view from FP then it will not work.

Yes that I am absolutely using the http://
Okay,

Lets eliminate the server and see if we can better isolate the problem.

Create a form with two text boxes and save the form. Now open the form in your browser and submit it. If it works then we can assume FP server extensions are atleast installed and functioning.

Did you ASK your Host if the server is configured to send emails?

The error you are getting is very typical.  Check the following:

- That you are designing the form LIVE on your website
- Forget about this form,  keep it,  create a new one to send and email and see if it goes through
- If above did not work then your HOST should activate email sending

Besides I heared that Microsoft cancelled email sending using forms in FPSE2002 for security reasons.

It sounds like your problem must be that your ISP has not set up a valid SMTP mail server for your we\bsite IN THE FRONTPAGE SERVER ADMINISTRATION PAGES doe your webisite on the serveritself.  They shouldknow how to do this if you ask them.  Note that this is NOT your SMTP-POP account, but within FrontPage extensions.

Your SMTP server has to be pointed and valid from and reply to addresses configured ON THE SERVER in Front Page Administration or forms will NOT be mailed back.

This turned out to be a frontpage server extension issue on the old Server thanks
Glad you got it fixed...  server extensions HALF installed is not uncommon, since FrontPage expects the web server admin to enter the proper data.  Form emails never work unless the proper data is entered by your web server admin.
