Page Cannot Be Displayed unless press F5

We are in the process of updating our desktop build....

Going from IE5.5sp2 to IE6, and doing away with IEAK and instead delivering options thru AD has caused a strange problem....

After we put in our proxy username/password (correctly) the webpage comes up as Page Cannot be Displayed..... until we hit F5.... then it displays no problem.....

Its always the first page visited after authenicating..... once F5 is press that first time, its good for the reminder of that IE session.....

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

I had a very similar problem recently, courtesy of removed adware/spyware.

we've learnt a bit more since posting...

if we take out the proxy settings (the 'proxy' is an authenicating cache server run by our ISP, not us... running squid) its fine.... put the proxy settings back in... stops again

also, installed FF v1.0 - thats happy as larry, not matter if the  proxy setting is there or not

(oh yeah - OS = w2k pro )

ok - I've got the answer off another forum....

its a known problem with IE6sp1 and squid.

apparently IE6 sends NTLM authenication, instead of BASIC.

There is an MS patch for it, but you have to email them to get it.
The helper at the other forum pointed me to a non-MS download location (so use at your own risk) and grab the "IE6 proxy patch"

So this question can be closed.
