Barcode question on Powervault 132T

I have a PV 132T with a barcode reader. The problem is that I can not find any extended documentation on how to create the barcodes, width, size etc.  I am using SDLT tapes.  My question is what program can I use to create barcodes (free if possible) and what type and size etc do I need?  Thanks in advance.

Never heard of anyone printing their own before, we just buy ours from the same place we get the tapes from.

What info is typically put on the barcode?

The code just has to have a number which you see only once (When you buy the sheets with the barcodes on, you will have a human readable number next to it as well). This is just a tool to be able to identify a backup that has been made with a single tape. You need that for tape roboters as otherwise the roboter wouldn't know which tape is which.

has a free type 39 barcode font which you can download. You can use it to print your own barcodeas, but honestly, its less mucking about just to buy some sticker sheets (which also come in a range of attractive colours :-) )
