time taken to execute query

Is there a way to determine the approximate time it would take to execute a particular query(of course without actually executing the query)? Some of our users complianed about time outs, since the amount of returned data is enormous.so..I would like to prompt them with a message saying that the processing time for their query is xxx secs/mins.

thanks in advance

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Short of something like:

SET SHOWPLAN_ALL ON
GO
<<User query>>
GO
SET SHOWPLAN_ALL OFF
GO

and some interpretation of the output based on comparisons with queries with roughly known execution times, I don't think so.
