Reading Interbase BLOB text in MS Access using the XTG Systems Interbase6 ODBC driver

Hello,

I am experiencing a problem reading data from an Interbase BLOB field.

I have installed the XTG Systems Interbase6 ODBC driver to access an Interbase database from within MS Access. After opening an ADO connection, I can read information from the database, except when the field is a BLOB field. In this case only small squares are displayed, not the actual characters.

Can anyone help me with this problem?

Thanks in advance

As SQL itself doesn't handle blobs I don't think you can do it, you would need to connect directly to the interbase database via it's api.

Can anyone provide me with an example of the API calls I would need to read a text BLOB field (from within MS access)

The main api calls you will need are "isc_create_blob" and "isc_open_blob", you may not be able to use them within access but have a client application that handles access and firebird

Thanks for your input. I have found a more direct solution by installing another ODBC driver (Firebird/InterBase). This driver reads the blob fields as Memo fields in access.
