How to dump/view/extract files created from a win 2k server tape backup utility.

I have a tape made with windows server 2000 backup utility.
Using the GUI it wont let me look at the contents of any old tape but rather only the tapes for which it has a catalog.

How can I view the contents of that tape (or any tape for that matter created on a win2k server using the pre-installed backup utility) and optionally extract files from it?

I believe this tape has some data I need to extract and need a response as soon as possible.

if this backup utility works the same as other backup programs, you will most likely need to catalog these older disks before they are viewable...
