Printer: HP deskjet 840C  OS: Windows XP
PRinter stopped printing thought I was out of ink.  Replaced ink cartridge and still does not print.  Have primed cartrdige two or three times, have updated drivers, gone through XP printing troubleshooting steps, gone through HP's online troubleshooting steps.  Still printing blank pages.  Ink comes out of cartridge blots on white page.  Any ideas of why not printing all of a sudden?

mom2jam,

The print heads on your printer may be clogged.

Here are instructions for cleaning the print heads:

If the print heads are on your cartridge itself, then a clog may not be the case.

You could also try cleaning the inside of the printer itself.

Can you run a self test? then the printer is OK. If not, see above

mom2jam,
Sorry you feel that way, you never mentioned that you cleaned the actual print head (i.e. with alchohol) & that is why I suggested it. Good luck and I'm sorry we can't help you further.

Thank you all for your input.  I guess I have tried everything but another new cartridge. Just was wondering if someone else had another idea.  Thanks again.

Press and hold the paper feed button while powering on until the power light starts to blink. This should print a demo page.

Or

If that doesn’t print then try, with the power on press the paper feed button until the power light flashes, the release the button.
You should have the same results, a demo page.

If no demo page is printed or if the printer doesn’t react then I would suspect a defective logic board.
If a demo page prints and it doesn’t under windows then it might be driver related.
Although it can still be the logic board.

The USB or parallel port might be defective on the printer. In that case I would try installing the printer on another computer for testing that out.
