Dear Experts,

I want to launch a particular application when I press one of the front panel buttons on my 6300.   I have had a look at the Imaging devices item in the control panel of Win XP and this looks like it can do what I want but how do I make my application appear in the list of target applications?

    Hello lnwright =)

I have never used this scanner... but i have a LG one and it has the software which has the feature to launch a specific application when scan button is pressed.... and AFAIK the program which can be launched by this button cab be only Imaging Programs, like Paint, ACDSee, Photo Manager, MGI PhotoSuite etc etc !!

What I mean to say that for specific buttons there are specific applications which can be launched... I dont think so that you can just BROWSE any other application and can set to to launch when any of those buttons is pressed :)

    Thanks SheharyaaSaahil,

Yeah I figured it was something like that but I wonder if I can make windows class my program as an imaging program so that I can get it to show in the list

lol... then you will have to do some solid programming to mess with the Windows settings... coz this type of information cannot be changed or tweaked from simple registry hacking!! ;-)

Are you easy to work with registry btw ?? coz if you are then what you can try is to have a look in the registry in the registry folder of the software which you are using to set these programs for specific buttons... coz if the software stores the information in registry that which program is launched upon hitting scan, we can try to change it directly from registry instead of getting the program in the list... !!

    Confusing.... ?? :)

Are you using the software that came with your scanner? It should come with a program called HP Scanjet Button Manager to configure the scan button to use whatever software application that you choose. It is stated in the manual which you can find here:

All 3 models of your scanner come with this software:

    » HP Scanjet 6300c Scanner
    » HP Scanjet 6300cse Scanner
    » HP Scanjet 6300cxi Scanner

Thanks yes I've had a look at the button manager.    If using the button manager the question becomes how do I make my application a "Supported Document Management Application".     Perhaps a registry modification as suggested above.
