Appletalk Printers

Hello,

I'm having a problem with getting a Mac OS 9 machine to talk to a Windows 2003 Print server.  I have the UAM installed and the Mac can see the UAM volume just fine.  I can't , however, see any of the printers on the 2003 server in the chooser.  I'm new to configuring Appletalk, so please go easy on me  :O

Thanks!

Dustin

I've already been to this link and readup on this information.......it still doesn't help me in geting a printer setup on this particular mac machine.  I've got my appletlak zone setup as well as my seed router, but the Mac won't see the zone for some reason.  I was able to create a share for macintosh users on 1 of our file servers, but no network printers show up in the chooser.

Just checking, but when you go the chooser are you clicking on LaserWriter ?
Also you should make sure any routers on the network are not set to block
appletak. Last newer version of LaserWriter suport LPR printing, have you considerd
setting up the printer via tcpip ?

Thanks for your suggestions......i haven't tried clicking on LaserWriter yet....I don't even know if it's an option......I'll try that though and see.  I have set up the printer using TCP/IP on the windows print server so this shouldn't be an issue.  I'll try the chooser thing and get back to you.

Thanks

OK,

The Printer I am installing is an HP Color Laserjet 4550.  I downloaded the hqx setup file from HP's website and got the printer all setup.  I was able to print 1 thing to it, but it's from quark and it looks all pixelated and it took a really long time for it to spool.  The Marketing guy i am doing this all for said that it shouldn't be all pixelated quark just renders stuff that way.  The thing I'm concerned about is how long it takes to spool the actual document.  It takes like 5 minutes or more.  Is this normal?

Thanks again

Depending on the amount of graphics in the file and the speed of the mac, can effect the speed. Also you on the mac , you can turn off background printing.

Are you still printing through the server ?
Try prinitng direct to the printer:
