finding a smart switch

Hey all,

Not sure if this is possible or not but if what I am trying to find (hardware) is not available, I need some alternative.

Here is what I am trying to do. I have a router in my remote location. I am going to connect a modem to that router so that I can dial from my office and get to that router. In my remote location , I have only one phone line and there is a phone .
I am looking for  somekind of a smart switch that can switch between that phone and modem. I donot want anyone to switch for me or in other words , I donot want a manual switch there. Is it possible..

My office location <laptop >  <-----phone line ----->    <----- some kind of smart switch ------------------>
                                                                                                                                       |           |
                                                                                                                                       |           |
                                                                                                                                    Phone(1)  Modem (1)

So from the above diagram as you can see, I should be able to use a telephone from my office and call the phone (1) in my remote location or I should use my laptop from my office and dial to the modem (1).

If there is no such hardware available , is there an alternative for the above situation...

    Accepted Solution

    Something like this

Google for "phone fax modem switch"
There are several of them on the market. Some you can configure to direct incomming calls with an extra number or something. For example, dial xxx.123.4567 and the phone will ring, dial xxx-123-4567,,88 and the modem answers...
