failed to open stream and php

I am new to the whole Lamp thing, i am trying to get php working with apache.
when i try t oopen a php file i get the following error:

Warning: Unknown(<path>): failed to open stream: Permission denied in Unknown on line 0

Can anyone help?

    go into the directory where your document root is (probably something with .../localhost/htdocs/ in it's path) and issue this command
    chmod -R a+r *
    This gives read access to everybody, which is not save on a server, but ok for testing ;)
