I have a web application on a win2k3 server running IIS.  I would like for it to be able to use SMTP to send email.  How do I set this up and test it?  Thanks!

    Accepted Solution

First of all, do you have the SMTP service installed?  If not (or if you're not sure), go to Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs -> Add/Remove Windows Components to open the Windows Components window.  Select 'Application Server' and click 'Details'.  In the Application Server window, select 'Internet Information Services' and click 'Details'.  In the Internet Information Services window, make sure the 'SMTP Service' box is checked.  If you will be using FrontPage to create web pages to send email, make sure 'FrontPage 2002 Server Extensions' box is checked as well.  Click 'OK' to install the SMTP service (if it wasn't already installed).

Next - how would you like to send the email - via web pages running on your IIS server?

    Assisted Solution

If you are using Win2K3, just go to Administrative Tools -> Configure Your Server Wizard, choose a server role : Mail Server then follow its wizard. Very easy to do it.
