Signs of Hard Disk Failing?

Hi,

Hoping one of you guys can help me?

I have been playing the World of Warcraft beta, which is quite heavy on the system and in the last couple of days I have noticed my IBM 80GIG hdd is cutting out furing the game play, it then fires back up sometimes.  It's kind of like the disk is going into hibernation mode, though that is not set up on this pc.

I got the BSOD a couple of times, rebooted.  Then finally it would not boot.  I did a recovery option on it a recreated the MBR and it has been running ok since.  The beta has now closed so I can't test again.

Checks on temperature did not show any adverse heat to the hdd, nor to the cpu, all nice a cool.

chkdsk found no errors.  I have backed up stuff, but I'm wondering is this the first signs of hdd failure of does it sound like something else???

Would like to be sure before I buy a new disk only to find it was a power problem or something!

Cheers

Hi mightyred,

Just check the harddisk with the right tools:

Especially S.M.A.R.T. data is effective in telling you if the disk is going to fail.

OK I ran that on advanced test incl SMART.  Finished iwth this code 0x00 and didn't indicate any errors.  I couldn't fine a log anywhere???

If that is the case and it is ok, then its odd that it crashed and wouldn't boot.  Any further ideas?

Thanks

Hi,

One run found errors, several others found nothing, but disk kept playing up, so I decided to get some new kit!  And as from new question posted, nothing runs smooth sometimes LOL.  Thanks for pointing me to the diagnostics.
