VPN access

I have a Dlink 804HV on remote side
Operating system client side is Windows 2000 (have also tried a XP machine)

I am using PPTP and here is the issue.

If I use dialup access all works well.

If I try to VPN using my cable access (computer connected directly to Cable modem) I am able to connect but here are the issues

Once connected I try to ping server on remote side and all shows well.
Try to connect to a share on the computer and it sometimes lists the contents but most times it is unable to connect.
After this failure I try the same ping as before and it now fails.

The Ip on the remote side is
The VPN IP is (assigned my the Dlink VPN router)
I am using MS-Chap.

What could resolve this issue.

Make Sure you are in the correct work group and try to keep all the ips on the 192.168.1.* or 10.0.0.* range less hassel later unles you have a huge network and you have to split up computer into Virtual lans like you are doing

I checked and the workgroups are the same
see if you can place the both onto the 192.168.0.*

Cause my work has a vpn and i mount drives across the internet all the time therough ipsec(Vpn)

and i know all the computer ther are 192.168.0.* and when i vpn in i get a Ip address se if there is a setting you can change in the VPN

I need to close this question.  The problem was that one option on the client side had to be changed to "connect even if no encryption"
