Internet explorer "Access to the specified device, path, or file is denied."

Hi,
I reciently installed ICQ Lite 4 on my win2k SE machine.

Problem is, just after I installed it when i click on the IE shortcut it gives me a popup error "Access to the specified device, path, or file is denied."

I have run SpyBot -> results are negitive except for some cookie files which i deleted
I ran AVG anti virus -> Negitive, no viruses found
AdAware -> Negitive, nothing specific

Any ideas whats causing the problem and how I can fix it?

Thanks,
Mag

right click on the shortcut, and choose properties
is the path correct?
what happens if you click on iexplore.exe directly?
search for the file, and try and launch it (to see if it's the exe or the shortcut that is faulty)

Hi,

stevenlewis: The same thing happens even when i click on the program file itself and the path is correct.

SheharyaarSaahil: Thanks of the link, i checked and the shortcut is correct in double quotes, i went into the registry and changed any of the DATA values that were not in quotes and pointing to iexplore.exe... still not workring.

I found quite a few of them without quotes like this:
path/to/iexplore.exe,1

and i changed them to
"path/to/iexplore.exe",1

Thats correct....right? or should the comma and 1 too be in the quotes?

Thanks,
Mag

Hi,
That does not seem to be the problem because it used to work just fine before, going back to download.com i see that this problem is not new:

check out whats written by "Lone Ranger"

Problem is, I cannot find it in add-remove programs, i tried to redownload and install it, then it asked me if i would like to just reinstall the components and i said yes...but still its not working...

ideas?

Thanks,
Mag

Hi,
I have given you the points as you tried to help me the most, i found what was the problem, the problem was with my firewall (kerio) I uninstalled that and things went well.

Thanks,
Mag
