XP Color Quality Registry Key

What is the registry setting for color quality/depth in Windows XP (medium - 16 bit vs high - 32 bit)? My wife likes to play old games on the PC that require the setting be switched to 16 bit. I want to set up a couple of .reg files so she can set and reset between 16 and 32 bit between gaming sessions. She's willing to double click a file, but trying to show her how to go into Desktop settings is apparently asking too much. Thanks.
