I am having a problems sending an email from Ifolder to invite my works' computer to synchronise with home. I am using Windows XP. Does Microsoft Outlook need to be setup in a certain way?

No. I've read the above link - it does not solve my problem. Ifolder does not send mail from my computer for some reason. Many thanks.

Are there any error messages displayed during the failure?
No error messages are shown.

I have found in Edd Dumbill's Weblog a comment relating to this problem.

"Sharing a folder is reasonably easy. You pick it using a file selector, then you invite somebody to share it. The killer here at the moment is getting the invitation email out. The default configuration assumes your SMTP host is aliased to to mail and provides no feedback at all if the invitation fails to send. There's a way to configure this. But then you need to get around the problem that the "from" header looks something like From: edd@192.168.0.8, which is enough to trigger most anti-spam rules. The correct way to do this would be to hook into Evolution or Outlook to get the mail sent."

I have some difficulty understanding this.

Does anyone have any experience of using Ifolder with XP?
kjc -

Sorry for the delay in responding.  I have been under the weather for over a week now.

I don't have any experience with this configuration as I consider OutLook to be one of the most vulnerable products ever created and it is unbelievable that it is still commonly used with all of the constant patching....

I haven't done a lot of research into the new "features" included with XP SP2, but in every release of a Windoze update it seems some Novell product is somehow "broken".  Microsoft appears to intentionally cause these problems.  Have you ever had this configuration working on this machine?  I believe there is a personal firewall that is installed with SP2 that is automatically enabled.....

No I haven't yet managed to get ifolder working. There is a lot of positive reviews about the program.
The latest released version of iFolder is 2.1.  Are you sure you are running iFolder client version 3.3?
kjc,

I believe you are referring to a Virtual Office configuration.  Is this something that is configured and working properly when you are in the office?

Are you able to share files with a virtual team when not working remotely?
Ahhhh.....  i found your 3.3 version on the Novell Forge website.  This is still in development.  There is a documented problem with workgroup invitations.

Refactoring Work in Progress
The Novell development team is in the process of major refactoring work on iFolder and as a result the workgroup invitations are not working. As soon as the refactoring work is complete, and everything is put back together, which will include workgroup invitations, we'll announce it. We're excited about the level of interest and hope you'll hang on for an update. Stay tuned!

It appears you will have to wait until an updated version is posted to the Forge site to get this feature working.

Test Environment
This version of iFolder is an introductory release of the open source, workgroup model of iFolder. It is available for further development and experimental use in the open source community. We highly recommend that iFolder be used only in test environments at this time.

WARNING:

Do not use this version of iFolder in a production environment.
