I'm trying to access an FTP site on a computer at a branch office LAN. The branch network is part of a domain hosted at the central office. the two networks are connected via VPN through D-Link 804HV VPN routers. Users access the internet through the VPN router aswell.
When I goto connect to the FTP site, it will connect but when I try to log in, it times out.

Any ideas?

FTP uses two ports
21 is the main one and I belive 20.  Make sure the firewall is allwoing both.  Sounds like your getting to them but they are not getting back to you.

Either way one of the logs should show whats happening.

Also try switching your ftp client to passive mode.  In active mode it requires two way communication.

np.

It turns out it was the router. I didn't have port 20 open.....
Also, the host of the FTP site didn't have the user setup properly but that was a different problem.

Thanks for you help
