Hi eberhardt2329,

A bit more information might be helpful, like what are you backing up, and from what system.
But... please take a look at the following pages:

"Unable to attach to one of the drives" error is reported while backing up remote systems
http://support.veritas.com/docs/259874

During a backup of a system, an "unable to attach to one of the drives" error is reported, although the Remote Agent for Windows Servers was successfully installed.
http://support.veritas.com/docs/255187

During backup of remote systems through User-defined Selections, the job ends with the error: "Unable to attach to one of the drives."
http://support.veritas.com/docs/250678

Greetings,

LucF

i am running the backup exec 9.1 from a windows 2003 server, and then it backs up a netware 6.5 server, and it looks to be failing when backing up ds stuff?

Hmm... I've never seen that error before in my life :(

http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/190820.htm sheds a little light on it, you might want to try it.

ok, but what is happening is I took a tape that had backups on it and erased it, and want to use it to do the new backup, what do I need to do to make this happen,. I erase teh tape, then what? normaly?

After erasing the tape, that is about it.  Then just reuse that tape for backup.

Does the tape belong to a media set?  Does the media set have a retention/expiration date?  I forget what the actual terms for those are but those dates can make Backup Exec reject tapes, even if they were just erased.  By default, all tapes belong to Media Set 1.

yes - erase/format tape and once it's done, you then can drag and drop the tape to the appropriate media set (daily's, weekly's monthly's etc).  Once thats done, make sure the backup job is set to use the media set that you've dropped that tape into.  So long as you've set the overwrite and append periods correctly then the backup will work.  You set the overwrite and append periods by right clicking the media set and under there you'll see how to change'em.

There is a great utility from Veritas called the 'Direct Assist' and it has a diagnostics ability within that software. It has the knowledge base as well so you can find reports easier and faster. I think its a good idea to use it.

Thank you!

Although I didn't have time to help you through the final steps (I also have to sleep sometimes) I'm glad you found my comments helpful in solving your problem.

Take care,
