Wireless Adapter connection to Windows XP Laptop

How do I connect a Linksys Wireless-B USB Network Adapter to a laptop computer running Windows XP without having to disconnect the built-in firewall?  The Broadband Router offers firewall protection, but when the laptop is used elsewhere there is no firewall protection.

get SP2 for the laptop, the firewall is more configurable or get zone alarm (free for personal use) from
www.zonelabs.com
more configurable than the XP firewall

Why would you need to disable the built in firewall?  So long as the ports you require are open on both firewalls they'll work fine.  It's only when you have two software firewalls on the same machine that problems occur.  Hardware and software ones rarely conflict!

Also, do not download SP2 unless you have to!  It is a bloody nightmare!
