Installing Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services

I asked my IT Administrator to install Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services on one of our servers.  The server is running Windows Server 2003.  He said that when he attempted to do so, it asked if it should overwrite the existing SQL servers (which we do NOT want to do).  He said that if he says no, then we have to figure out how to manually set up and register Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services.  I don't really know much about this... I just know I want to create an Intranet that utiilizes some of the Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services features.

Anyone know what I am talking about and have any ideas as to what I should tell him?

Thanks

If SQL Server 2K is installed on the WSS server prior to installing WSS - a second instance of "SQL" is installed for the WSS databases. This "second instance of SQL" is in fact MSDE 2K not SQL Server 2K.
So, it doesn't interfere with the existing SQL instance.
This can e done, anyway (if you want, but it's a different setup).

I am not sure, but i think you want to use frontpage for your intranet?
Tell your Admin to install Frontpage Extensions 2002. That installs Windows Sharepoint Services for IIS.
maybe he is thinking, you want him to install the whole Sharepoint Portal Server, which is too much.

I want to create an Intranet (internal website for my company) that utilizes features of Sharepoint Services...

When I tried to publish from Frontpage onto my IIS server, it said I must install Sharepoint Services...

Where will he find the latest FrontPage Extensions?  Do they come with Windows Server 2003?

Thanks
