Very new to perl

I am very new to perl.I have to use pro*c using perl.How can i use?Is pro*c compiler is necessary?
Are there any tools to develop perl programs.

    pro*c is a c++/sql precompiler, what should it have to do with perl?

    Why do you have to use pro*c?  

    There are a few IDEs for perl, but for the most part all you need is a good text editor with syntax highlighting. I use jEdit ( I have never found any IDEs that I really liked. The best one, though, is probably Komodo (
