# cannot get on some sites

Hello again !

another day, onother problem as they say :
i can get on the internet, to sites like yahoo, google.
when i type (in google) adaware, i get the search result, i can go to the adaware site, but then it goes very slow, and i never can get it to download adaware.
i am using broadband connection, scanned with ravantivirus, housecall, adaware, spybot, hijackthis and removed some troublemakers (not excessive)
In regedit , under hkey_local_machine\system\ControlSet001\services\DHCP\DependonService ,
i found these entries :
Tcpip
Afd
NetBT
SYMTDI
in the event log, i find errors referring to DCOM

help appreciated !

Hello nobus =)

Have you checked the HOSTS file from C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc
i mean open it in Notepad and check there if it contains the entries for these websites which you cannot get to access ?
if they have then remove them and save the file, restart and now check if same problem ?

Also im considering that you have already tried deleting the Internet Temp Files and history from IE options :)
So how about creating a new user account and check there for the problem :-?

i deleted it, but it gives the same effect

Try this first,

Boot into safemode, and then goto My Computer>Tools>Folder Options>View and turn on the feature of Show Hidden Files
Goto C:\Documents and Settings\your usernmae\Local Settings\Temp and delete all files present here
Goto C:\Documents and Settings\your usernmae\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files, and delete the folder of ContentIE
Goto C:\Documents and Settings\your usernmae\Cookies, and delete all cookies present here
(ofcourse im assuming that u have already saved all the login passwords for your websites :)

Restart back in normal mode to login with the corrupted user, and check for the problem now ??
if same issue then i must say that the corruption is registry-wise, and its better that you transfer to the new account :)

if you will login as Administrator in saefmode, you will have access to all the profiles folder.

no actually what i meant was.... you can delete the temp and cookies files from all users only from Administrator. you dont have to login with each user profile to do that method :)

ok we can try one more thing before we are forced to move 6 profiles to the new ones =\
from the new user account opne regedit and then go here,

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\
click the '+' sign and then right click the Internet Settings folder and click Export
save the reg file in a new folder on C: drive
then restart and now login as one of the problematic user
now open regdit and goto HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\ again
here delete the Internet Settings folder and now close regedit
now open C:\New Folder and then double click the reg file which you exported from the new user
say yes to merge the information, now logoff and login with the same user
check if same problem still ??

there is one site  (a bank) complaining about jave script not being enabled. Maybe you know that too?

if you alread checked under Security options that Java is enabled, then try this, goto Start>Run and type these lines hitting enter after each line, then restart you machine and check now if same complaint ??

you mean when you type, regsvr32 urlmon.dll, you get the error ??
try typing it from command prompt.... same thing ??

But i can see the bank site very well.... and i can see also that they are using javascripts!

ok tell me, have you tried disabling any firewall temporary to check for the problem..... and is norton installed on the machine ??

Try Downloading and Installing Windows Script 5.6 for Windows 2000 and XP to check if same problem still ??

OK-first thing ya gotta do, trust me on this one, and it may not fix everything or even anything but ya got to do it right now: Open the following file in notepad:

c:\windows\ is this windows2k or XP, LOL-I can't even remember which thread I'm in for god's sakes...I am sorry people but this is funny....ok, ok...

MAKE SURE THAT THE LINE

127.0.0.1    locahost

IS THERE! IF it isn't there PUT IT THERE....LOL

This is internet explorer right? Do you have any problems with any other applications on your PC?

sigh:try this:

record your proxy settings (if any):

To check proxy settings, open Internet options from control panel and click connection
, then lan settings button. Write down any config's you may have in here before deleting the below registry
keys.

close all IE windows.

Click start button=>run=>type in regedit=>click OK
Click the file menu=>export registry file=>browse to the root of a drive (C:\ will do nicely)
Type in a file name (regback.reg will do nicely) click save-remember where you save this-just in case

navigate to the following locations:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer (1.)
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings (2.)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings (2.)

Delete the following keys located on the left had side of the registry window:

1.) Internet Explorer
*DO NOT delete this one from HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE or you will need to reinstall IE at best and your OS(WIndows) at worst...*

2.)Internet Settings from both hives (may not exist in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE)

This  puts all Internet Explorer Settings back to their defaults...you will have to re-configure you're IE the way you like it on the advanced tab after performing these steps and also re-enter any proxy settings you may have had.

So, if it is a javascript problem and accessing websites there might be a policy or something on IE...who knows, it can't hurt to do this, that way configuration is ruled out and then the troubleshooting on other things starts.

it is the IP address of your local machine and your machine depends on it for some services, network related services...if you open a cmd prompt and type ping 127.0.0.1 <enter> you should get replies, same thing if you type in ping localhost <enter>

Also, if you are sure you have performed ALL the above sugestions, then maybe it is a routing issue on the ISP side...rare but not unheard of, I had a problem similar to that a few yeasr ago and it took a long time to convince the ISP that it was THEM...

What are the exact URL's to these webpages, lets see if some of us are having any problems with them...then again, they won't check even that out for you unless you do a re-install of the OS...

yup the page loads just fine for me..ok let sty this then

open up cmd form start button run=>type in "cmd" without the quotes, click OPK
then type in the follwing;

ping www.kbc.be <enter>

you should get four replies...if you don't try typing this in the same window:

ipconfig /flushdns <enter>
then
ping www.kbc.be <enter>

now how is the reply's?

This will rule out routing, if yuo get replies it is not a routing issue...as long as those replies are under say 200ms?

I got to go to bed now, it is 4AM and I have to get up a 9AM and drive top Montreal (2hrs from me) so good night all, see ya sometime after the weekend, wifey is abck from a two week busines trip and we're staying away from the PC's this weekend...

It all boils down to a firewall software I beleive, something somewhere is stopping the packets from leaving your PC, doesn't look like theyre even hitting the wire. open up services.msc by clicking start button=>run and tyoping it in:

Locate Internet Connection hsaring=.disable it and set it's startup type to manual (it's a drop down menu)

then find Windows Firewall or firewall or Window Secuiry (whatever they're calling it nowadays) and do the same for it, disable it and set it's starup type to "disbaled" not manual...
reboot and try it all over again with the website.

You could try rsetting IP:

In Windows XP, a reset command is available in the IP context of the NetShell utility. When you run the reset command, it rewrites pertinent registry keys that are used by the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) stack to reach the same result as the removal and the reinstallation of the protocol.

open CMD, type in the following command inclucing path\to\restlog.txt (the file will be created)

netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt

then try it again....

The only other times I seen this was:

a crossover was used instead of a straight through cable
bad nic -try another network card
ISP maps to mac address, change of network device will not allow access: contact ISP with new mac addrress.

i emptied the ssl cache, and reset to defaults, rebooted -> same problem
with the direct link however i can access it.

i read you posts.... couldn't find any mentioning about the script engine.... may be im getting blind day by day =\

Run SFC. Find the ie.inf file located in Windows\Inf folder.
Right click the ie.inf file and click Install on the context menu.
Reboot the computer when the file copy process is complete.

This is another way of reinstalling Internet Explorer, after SFC has run.

...And i tried downloading netscape : i could surf to the download page, when i clik download, it says :
You may not have the permissions to view this page
....and Mozilla does not exist in Dutch up to now

Did you check System Account Permissions?? How many user accounts? Try logging in as Administrator and see if the problem persists. It could be caused be a corrupted registry / user account.

there are six accounts, 5 of them have administrator privileges, and i created a test account with adm priv.
I did that already before posting the question.
Still the same problem.
i do not know if it has a relevance to this issue, but when i look at my network connections, i see nothing, even if i was able to finish the wizard, and created a connection in the workgroup HOME

Oh yes, and i tried already another NIC card and cable, and the router is powered off/on daily.

there is another address used that is incompatible with the asked protocol
That was on 11/29; Now i do not see those error codes (i reinstalled SP2)The last error i got was :
7000 : The CAM 3200 WDM video capture service cannot start because of following error :
cannot start service because it is disabled, or has no enabled devices connected

However, in services i cannot find the service control manager

The IPSEC service is an IP Security service as you know.

Check your netork IP/TCP configuration under advanced, option, tcp/ip filtering. Make sure filtering is unchecked.
Also remoce NETBUI protocol.

Configure User Rights for this service.

Configure The CAM 3200 WDM video capture service to run manual or disabled.

The way i see it, is that you are using a network protocol or protocol setting which is causing this.

WinInet limits connections to a single HTTP 1.0 server to four simultaneous connections. Connections to a single HTTP 1.1 server are limited to two simultaneous connections. The HTTP 1.1 specification (RFC2616) mandates the two-connection limit. The four-connection limit for HTTP 1.0 is a self-imposed restriction that coincides with the standard that is used by a number of popular Web browsers.

The only evidence of this limitation to your application is that calls such as HttpSendRequest and InternetOpenURL appear to take longer to complete because they wait for previous connections to be freed up before their requests are sent.

You can configure WinInet to exceed this limit by creating and setting the following registry entries:

A question.
Your pc connects with broadband? Are you using a static IP? Set the settings on the other pc you are repairing to be the same as your pc. Try to connect and tell me what error(s) you receive.

if microsoft tcp/ip protocol version 6 is installed, i have no internet connectivity;
if i install tcp/ip normally, i HAVE ACCESS ! !

Ok, there were no updates available, as SP 2 is installed.
access to the www.kbc.be is still impossible; when i open the page, it displays : you will now display info via a secure channel, when i click OK, -->> the page cannot be displayed

Hi

Please reset all internet explorer settings to default. Uninstall Java. See if you can access the site without Sun Java installed.
I found this log file from my antivirus, dated about 2 months back. After this i unistalled Sun Java and i am browsing the internet withou Sun Java installed.

Maybe it shines some ligt on this problem.

If this fails, i think we should start from scratch. Format, install XP. Visit www.kbc.be. If successful, install Service pack, visit www.kbc.be, and so on until we can pinpoint which app is causing this. To me it seems that Java is the culprit on this system.

That was what i thought from the beginning, however i could not find what was wrong (see the start of this thread) : i uninstalled javaVM, installed it, tried to use sun java etc...

Thanks for your help anyway, i will close this thread in a couple of days, so i can give you the latest info, which is the least i can do for your efforts !

Glad you joined in Jatcan. I've already seen this articles, that's why i posted (12/01/2004 10:26AM SAST). I was also  thinking of disabling system restore, and doing a cleanmgr.exe and removing previous system restore points.

Nobus, have you tried running msconfig and disabling all your startup items to see which app is hacking your system?
