Difference between cisco 1751 and 1751-V or 1760 or 1760-V

I am going to buy either the 1751 or 1760 routers but I noticed that there are different versions of the routers. Do I need a 1751-V or 1760-V if all I am looking for is to add a VWIC-2MFT-T1 card? I am looking at table 2 of the differences and the big thing I noticed are the DSP. From what I know DSP (Digital Signal Processor) converts Analog to digital but is this required for a T1 card since T1 is digital anyway?

Any place beside ebay where I can get a great deal on a Cisco 1751 or 1761 would be greatly appreciated.

The 1760 is the way to go, the basic reason is the 1760 was specifically designed to be used for voice. It have 4 slots, which all support VIC cards. 2 of the 4 ports support WIC's also.

In reagrds to DSP's you still need them for the T1.

So should I get a 1760 or a 1760-V?

The T1 is still using TDM based technology to transport the signal to teh router. The DSP are needed to support the conversion from TDM to the appropiate codec. The amount of DSP's needed depends on type of cards used and codecs choosen. The Cisco site has a tool to help determine how many DSP resources are needed.

Just a side note, these DSP resources are hardware based, Intel (Dialogic) is driving the voice industry to a software based DSP resources, also known as Host Media Processing (HMP). Right now they can support 120 ports of voice on a single Pentium III cpu.

Ebay will always be the cheapest, but there is always the gamble. I have been purchasing from www.provantage.com for years, very happy with them and their service. The following router CISCO1760-V-SRST has what you will need. The SRST allows for users to stay operational (voice) with out a call manager.

For testing only the T1 Trunk with a VWIC-2MFT-T1 can I get away with only getting the base model? Do I need DSP with the VWIC-2MFT-T1 card?

You will need the DSP resources, but the 1760-V comes standard with a few DSP resources to get you off the ground with VoIP. Plus why are you not using the VWIC-1MFT-T1  card verses the VWIC-2MFT-T1?

Does not matter, but if you are buying this brand new then the cost is more for the card.
