My Computer Crashes alot

This has been happening for some time now, its a very old computer 1.5 ghz.
Every now and then my computer freezes, when i play games or just surf the net. I tried reading other tutorials ont his but none works

    In my opinion based on my experience this could be caused by any number of things:

    1% lack of ram
    5% spyware/adware/virus related
    10% faulty hardware, including RAM
    20% driver/DirectX issues or poor programming on the game designers
    30% Windows regsitry/other corruption
    34% Hardware overheating.

    Do these all in order i suggest you print these our

    1.Start- Run- msconfig.exe, Startup tab disable ones you dont need, most you dont need then go to Services, Tick hide microsoft services, disable ones that arent familar to you, but dont disable the driver ones like Nvidia,Ati,Creative.
    4. Download free version of Ad-aware and scan for spyware
    5. Download free virus program or an online scan from
    6.www.powerdefrag PowerDefrag--> Disbales Vitural memory and then defrags good for getting rid of HD Blocks
