my machine's a BENQ notebook and my installation was direct from the quickrestore disk which i had no idea wad/how it really installed.

it reports fat32, however, reporting that it was unable to lock drive

can you confirm from the manufacturer if you have permissions to change file formats.. possibly some warranty stuff..

can you copy and paste what exactly you get when you give chkdsk /f ??

you know my sis has a toshiba latop, and toshiba has put a different tool for converting the FAT32 to NTFS.... so try to check if you have any such tool... or how about trying a third party tool, like Ranish Partition Manager :-?

i donot think anything needs to be worried about that. it is just that u are currently using the drive so chkdsk cannot do the checking.. donot worry abt that

well if you can... then why not :)

check with them and see if they allow ppl to do .

companies might differ with respect to warranty issues so you confirm with them .

ask them if you are allowed to convert ur file system type and if they say yes , tell them you cannot get it working with convert or atleast u are getting permission errors..

eturfclubAuthor Commented:
if they say "no", does that mean that i have to stick to this config unless i install the OS from the Retail version of XP?

SheharyaarSaahilCommented:
yeah... im afraid so =\

eturfclub,

there can be 2 nos

a) NO you are not supposed to do orelse there would be warranty problems
b) No you cannot do for this OEM version or whatever but if you change it wont affect warranty

you want to hear b) option and in that case install using a fresh retail version of XP
