Norton Antivirus 2002 Subscription Failure

I have Norton Antivirus 2002 (as part of SystemWorks 2002) installed on my laptop. The subscription ran out during a period when I was not using the laptop. When I knew that the subscription had expired I renewed it via Symantec website. Everything appeared to go smoothly and the subscription status indicates that this will expire correctly on 13 November 2005. However, when I run Live Update it indicates that there are virus definitions to install which appear to download and install smoothly but the virus definitions status still shows that the last definitions were downloaded in 8 September 2004 and therefore this requires 'Attention'. Repeating the process after rebooting etc. produces same result.

I have successfully downloaded subscriptions 2x before.

The response from Symantec was not helpful!! "Please note that Symantec has discontinued the interactive Technical Support for Norton 2003 and earlier versions of the Product. I thank you for choosing to use our products and hope you will consider our current version of Norton AntiVirus 2005 that is available now. Norton AntiVirus 2005 is a significant upgrade over previous versions. If you own a Symantec consumer product and you have proof of purchase, you can purchase the latest version at a discount price."

Does anyone know how to resolve this problem of downloading and properly installing virus definitions after activating a new subscription? (BTW OS is Windows2000)

I had wanted to avoid uninstalling & re-installing anti-virus software as I have heard of many people having problems! - I had hoped for an easier option. However, after uninstalling & re-installing the complete SystemWorks 2002 I now have a functioning anti-virus system with up-to-date virus definitions - but these are from date of re-installing and I have not needed to put in the new subscription info!
