"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

If you have windows xp and SP2 then i would try useing that because the impovments that
microsoft have made with this new service pack to the firewall are quite good and it means that you
dont have to install anymore software.
hope that helps

I just purchased McAfee's entire product line for about $175.00.  However, I have 30 days for a refund, and am beginning to think that some of this stuff that is free off the internet (e.g. Adaware) is superior.

Bottom line:   For each below, what do you recommend?
          anti-spam
anti-spyware   (I'm getting the impression that it's good to have 2-3 programs, since one doesn't seem to pick all of them up.)
          anti-virus
          privacy protection

          any others?

Do Zonealarm Internet Security or EZ Armor (both antivirus and firewall) both are CA or Checkpoint products. The firewall takes care of the anti-spam. EZ Pestpatrol is the best for anti-spyware - they maintain a database of pests like you would for virus's. And privacy protection? Back to answer #1
