Reporting Tools for LINUX

Anybody know a good cross-platform(win and linux) reporting tool. My favorite, crystal report doesn't seem to have a linux port. Is this true? I would love to use a product that is cross-platform, cos i develop on windows and deploy on linux. My current project is a web application that should be able to pass reports to a  web-browser client(front-end) for previewing and printing. Is this feasible? If not how do I make reports available to a web-browser client. Do I Build with raw html? I am currently using ASP.net/C# for development. DB is mysql.

You said that you develop on windows and deploy on linux, but you also said that you are using asp.net for development.  Does .net work on linux?  I didn't think it did.

All the same, .net has some great hooks for Crystal Reports.  You are probably already aware, but a cut down version of Crystal comes with .net 2003.  If you have Crystal 10 Developer, you can upgrade the crystal runtime that comes with .net 2003 to version 10.  I have used mysql as a datasource with crystal (though it has been some time since I did), and I don't recall any issues with it using ODBC.  Just make the dsn on your web server and use that for your .net db connections with oledb.

This isn't exactly what you are looking for, but I hope it helps.

Thanks,
Jerod

Project mono (www.go-mono.com) handles all the porting issues required to run .NET apps developed on windows to linux. It comes with a CLR and a C# compiler with ASP.NET and ADO.NET facility.
However what I need to know is:
- Are there tools for creating reports(callable from an ASP.net application) for both Windows and Linux?
- Is it possible to callup a report done with Crystal reports(or anyother reporting tool) into a web-browser for previewing/printing?
I wish to know the feasibility of this, before diving any further into the development phase.

There may be, but I am not aware of one.  What I would do is create the reports in Crystal on the Windows box and then use asp.net to call the reports from your linux box (assuming that the mono project works as well as the native CLR on a Windows box)

Yes.  Go to http://support.businessobjects.com/fix/samplescr.asp#02  There will be samples for you to look at using either C# or vb.net.

Thanks,
Jerod
