Uninstall McAfee Firewall (so AOL will recognise)

I am trying to uninstall mcafee firewall on my firiends Windows ME PC but I keep getting hte message " Could not open install.log file". I have tried re-installing the firewall toi create a log file but this makes no difference.

I'm only trying to uninstall it so I can re-install it and get AOL to recognise it. So if there is another way to get AOL to recognise it thats just as good a solution.

Have you tried to remove that firewall going to safe mode ?

Have you logged into administrator mode and then tried to reinstall it. Reinstalling the firewall should solve the issue of being able to uninstall later.. When you reinstalled, was it successful or you had issues reinstalling at the first place ?

What version of firewall do you have ?

Try to close all applications , background process and then try to uninstall it .

Thanks all. I will try these next Tuesday when I see my friend.

NB It's not Mcafee not recognising AOL it's AOL not recognising McAfee (on the sign on screen AOL has various things it tells you are running OK, anti virus, spoyware etc. - so its like a check for people).  AOL and McAfee work OK - as far as I can tell,  but AOL just says it can't find a firewall.  My friends not computer literate though and I can't convince him it doesn't matter that much (also I think its nice to have things working properly).

In answer to the questions above:

I'm not sure wehat version it is I can't check from here - the latest I think, as it's free from AOL and was installed very recently.

I've tried re-installing and  then uninstalling it makes no difference.

I haven't tried uninstalling in safe mode yet though.
Louv then you must consult AOL...... as far as i know if a Firewall is running then it means its running.... no matter if any third party software can recognise it or not..... e.g many people who have upgraded to SP2..... the SP2 Security Center dont recognise their AN or Firewall softwares...... but still the AV and Firewall softwares do run and protect their system..... :)
i think its just a compatibility issue between AOL and Mcafee Firewall...... AOL has not put the information in their program to pick up the Mcafee Firewall and that's why its not picking......!! :)
>> I've tried re-installing and  then uninstalling it makes no difference.

Which one are you talking about mcafee or AOL ?

If it mcafee , are you saying you are able to uninstall now as apposed to your original issue of not being able to ?
Hi Louverril :-),

I did state in my earlier response that I would not have access to the pc with the problem until Tuesday.

It's Tuesday morning here - I will be looking at it this afternoon.

I tried uninstalling in safe mode and no good. After trying that. I persuaded my friend in the end that it's probably best to leave well alone. The firewall and AOL are both still working.

Thanks for your comments
