Network file sharing

Hi all,

I have the following problem:

i share my internet using a router. and all computer have a static ip.
i can acces the other 2 pc's on my network
and they cant acces my pc. i have xp firewall disabled and i have Zonealarm disabled on my pc
and i share my C and D drive

they get the message you dont have permission.....

anyone can help?

all pc's have XP home edition

Boot into safe mode, right click on your drives, and select the "security" tab. Make sure the correct users have the right permissions set here.

i did everything in that link and did the save mode thing. but still on my pc i can internet and view all other computers on the network but the other computers cant see my computer but they see eachothers. ( others computers see my pc but cant acces my files)

i reinstalled windows all over again on one of the computers on the network, but it is still the same, they cant view my files.

my pc is the only pc with FAT32 all the others NTFS.... would that be the problem?

but they cant see my files even when zonealarm is shut down???

i make them trused and puted their local ip in zonnealarm still the same

Enable NetBios over TCP/IP in WIndows XP

Step 1: Turn On NetBIOS over TCP/IP

Click Start, click Control Panel, and then click Network and Internet Connections.

Click Network Connections.

Right-click Local Area Connection, and then click Properties.

Click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), and then click Properties.

Click the General tab, and then click Advanced.

Click the WINS tab.

Under NetBIOS setting, click Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP, and then click OK two times.

Click Close to close the Local Area Connection Properties dialog box.

Close the Network Connections window.

Step 2: Start the Computer Browser Service

Click Start, right-click My Computer, and then click Manage.

In the console tree, expand Services and Applications.

Click Services.

In the right details pane, verify that the Computer Browser service is started, right-click Computer Browser, and then click Start.

Close the Computer Management window.

Computer Browser Service is enabaled in all pc's

i already enabled NetBIOS over TCP/IP i was told to do that in the link you gave.
i just rebooted my router and all pc's and enabled and disabaled and enabled
Computer Browser Service and NetBIOS over TCP/IP again and again to be sure
but still the same problem.

it seems like the other pc's dont have permmision to acces my files....

cna the machines ping each other?

yes they can

try this from a prompt type
net use * \\<ip address>\sharename\
where ip address is the ip adress of the other machine, and sharename is the name of the share you have given
then look in windows explorer to see if the dive mapped

i tried the other's pc's ip\sharename and i got the message that the machine is connected with the <ip>\sharename

and if i do the same from the other machine to connect to my pc they got:
the user has got no permission error.

i even tried to change the sharename of my pc but it didnt work they still cant acces my files, they only see my machine name in the workgroup but they cant even see my drives

both xp home or is one xp pro?

on both go to a prompt and type
net view

MD is the name of a folder on my bro machine its located in his c:\md

OK, it is resolving fine
on your machine, boot to safe mode, log on as the admin
go to windows explorer, right click on c:
choose security, and check the permissions, make sure everyone and guest is listed with permissions to the share

i have only "everyone" and everyone have all the permissions
but i dont have guest how can i make the group "guest?"

from the sharing tab, click permissions, and then add

i added guest and guest's and users all gave them all the permissions and still they cant acces or view my files

i noticed one thing: on the machines with ntfs they have a tab (securty) i dont have it on my machine with the FAT32. (in save mode)

you won't it's only avbailable on ntfs drives

i converted my filesystem to ntfs and still the same problem
i think its a bug or something else i am going to re-install windows there is no other solusion

oh mu god i reinstalled and formated my whole drive. and they still cant connect to my files

i did exactly what they said and still nothing.

ps: i used to have proffesional edition and everything was fine (i know how to share files) and i also asked an expert networking engineer he said it might be a windows bug so i reinstalled my windows and the problem still remain

i can ping the and they can ping me, i can view their files they cant view my files.

ok the solussion was to update to SP1 or SP2
everything is working fine now after the update to SP2
