asked on

accessing ftp sites

I have set up a couple of ftp sites but seem unable to access them. When I type ftp localhost and go through username/password I am connected to the default ftp site. But when I type newftpsite, I get the message "unknown host" then the ftp prompt. How do I access other ftp sites on my server/hosts?

Dumb question, but you are using the correct ftp name?
does a graghical ftp client connect? like ws_ftp?
also try the ip address
are these setup on your local machine?
what ftp server software are you using?

localhost is connected to the FTP Default site, but I'm not sure what my other 2 ftp site are connected to so I don't know the names! I have not assigned IP addresses to any ftp site - all are unassigned.

The ftp software is the software that came with Windows 2000 server.

When I assign the IP address of my server, I can connect to the ftp site I created. But If I type in another IP address on the same subnet, it times out. When I ping the address, it also times out. How do I assign the address such that it is "live"?

read my first link thoroughly :-)
it tells you how to assign multiple ip's to your server
You could try assigning a difrent port number then use ftp://servername:portnumber
