Internet and email don't work over VPN

I'm using VPN at home to access our office network. When connected via VPN, I can't get onto the internet (using IE, Mozilla).  I also can't send or receive email through MS Outlook.  When I disconnect the VPN, can access internet with no problem.  How can I configure it so I can do email and internet while connected to VPN?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Hi maharlika,
What VPN are you using? (Cisco VPN client, Microsoft PPTP etc..)

Assuming that you are using Microsoft PPTP client, simply un-check the box under Network | TCP/IP | Advanced [] Use default gateway on remote network

If it is Cisco or other IPSEC VPN client, then you are out of luck.

To expand on lrmoore's answer if it is Cisco then you cannot do anything yourself. However the network administrator can enable split-tunneling on the VPN server which will cure the problem. They might not want to do this though as it reduces security.

Yes, the "use default gateway on remote" worked great. Thanks!
