Move Exchange 2000 to a different Server

I need to move our current Exchange 2000 data to another server with Exchange 2000.  Will copying the M:\ drive work, or do I need to do something more sophisticated?

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Why not simply install an additional Exchange 2000 server in the same administrative group. Move all mailboxes to the new server. Move Public folders to the new server by clicking on the Public Folder store, choose replicas and select the new server, this will replicate the folders to the new server.

Alternatively you could migrate the server to new hardware with the same server name and ipaddress.  To do so please follow the steps in the following article.
