Requesting suggestions for computer cases......

I want to build my next computer system. Currently I am looking at computer cases. I want a full tower aluminum case. I think that they will be better at handling - getting rid of heat. The computer will be a workstation used to edit video - running Adobe products - XP Pro. I want lots of room to grow into the box.

Any suggestions?

If there is a web site that I can checkout that would be great as well!

Thanks!

Ensure to have a gud power supply... at least 400 Watts is what I wud suggest. Ensure to have room for atleast 3 Fans... and make sure u get "Long" Cables for ur Dives, Power, etc ...or get Extension Cables.

Rajeev, why do you repeat my post? That helps the asker in no way and clutters the thread

Thanks Nobus for the pointer!

Question, What is the difference between middle and a full tower? I assume that there is size difference.

Thanks for tips Rajeev!

I haven’t thought about the types of cables I should be looking at. This will be my first computer build. I can see that I have to plan this project out in its entirety.

Mid tower =
 Drive Bays: 5.25"x3, 3.5"x2 (external),3.5"x2 (internal)
Full tower will have 8 drive bays, and accepts extended ATX boards

Thank you Crazijoe for the link.

Question:

The P160 can handle a maximum of two fans? Is that correct?

What does it mean when it says:
Color-coordinated CD-ROM & floppy drive covers
a. 4 external 5.25"
b. 2 external 3.5"
c. 4 internal 3.5"

What is the difference between external vs. internal?

Antec SLK3700AMB Solution series is a great case for the price. Newegg has it for $69.99 shipping is free. Click here:

http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproductdesc.asp?submit=Go&DEPA=0&CMP=OTC-Froogle&description=N82E16811129122

This case has an excellent finishing, it looks great, and uses 120mm case fans (you can put 2 fans - one on front, one at back). Its also bigger than a mid-tower but smaller than a full tower. Ideally, two 120mm case fan can cool a lot more than three 90mm fans. On the down side, this comes with just 350W Power supply, but you can replace it with any 400-450W power supply or more if you want. I personally use this case, and play a lot of games, including doom and other graphic intensive games, and I have never seen a more silent case which cools so well. And its made by Antec - which in my opinion is among the best in the market today. This can also hold upto 5 internal hard drives, upto 3 internal CD/DVD drives, upto 2 floppy drive, and come with removable cages for the hard-drives and floppy drives. The case is very very spacious and cools amazingly well from personal experience.1

Also, Antec's sonata cases are very good, though a little expensive. They come with 380W, look better but does not have as many drive bay's as the solution series SLK3700amb

The P160 can handle a max of 2 fans, but keep in mind that these are 120mm fans. Lots of air movement.
When they say "color coded CDROM and Floppy covers" that means there are 2 covers for the CDROM drive(s) and floppy drive (they are the same silver color as the bezel) that have doors and when your CDROM drives eject the disk the doors open up. I don't use them on my case. They look very nice but I had a problem with one hanging up on one of my burners.
The internal drive bays are the ones for HD. They are nice because they have rubber mounts on them. I am running 4 WD Raptors and I have very little noise comming from them.

Walletless,

I really like the Antec SLK3700 mid tower case. If you don't mind me asking was the case expensive?

No, the case only costs $69.99 shipped at newegg. I ordered it from staples.com (which has it for around $75) and price matched them to Monarch technologies (www.monarchtechnologies.com) and due to staples 110% price match policy, I got my case for $59 plus tax!

So I think the case is not at all expensive - you will rarely get a great case like this for such a low price. I have extensively used this case for building my new computer, so please feel free to ask any questions - I will definitely be able to answer since I have the case in front of me :)

Also, if you refer to the link I gave above from newegg (http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproductdesc.asp?submit=Go&DEPA=0&CMP=OTC-Froogle&description=N82E16811129122) you will be able to see more pictures of the case and the newegg price too.

Hope this helps !

I forgot to mention, I went through the hassle with staples, not to save some extra bucks, but staples has the best return policy in case the power supply went dead on arrival or something like that. you pay nothing at all from your pocket in this case. Newegg will ask you to pay the return shipping fees, which will be a heftly 20$+ if you send from UPS due to the weight of the case.

Oops, sorry I had the wrong link from monarchtechnolgy above. Here is the exact link to the product from their website:

Monarch Technology:
http://www.monarchtechnology.com/Item.aspx?sku=372828IM&sgd=341d308d318d308d318

Staples:
http://www.staples.com/Catalog/Browse/Sku.asp?PageType=1&Sku=IM1372828

So your price will be

75.99 - 16.63 (110% price match) = 59.36 + free shipping + tax
