I wish to change the hard drive on my sony vaio pcg-f305 from the 6.4 gb it comes with to a 20/60 gb which i have seen advertised as compatable with my laptop model, could you comment if this is possible and how to do so if it is.

Sony does not have a PCG-F305 laptop in its support database. Are you sure that's the correct model?

If you actually have the PCG-F350, your manual is here:

Of course, they don't tell you how to change the hard drive, because you might not do it right. Start on the page numbered 76, called Adding Memory.

Open the speaker cover, open the keyboard and the hard drive appears to be in the center of the machine. One or two screws should be all it takes to remove the drive. It should be in a metal cage, which is likely screwed onto the drive itself.

Put that on your new drive, install it in the machine, put the keyboard and speaker cover back on, boot from your recovery CD and away you go.

Of course, make a backup before you begin.
