Not enough memory error

I am puzzled by this error. We have a new Dell computer that we just purchased and have two printers hooked up to it.  A network printer (Color Laser Jet 4550N) and a personal printer (Brother Laser Printer HL-1440).  Everytime we try to print to either one of these printers from this computer an error occurs.

The error message is: "There is not enough space on your PC.  Make room on the hard disk by deleting some files"

Any ideas on what may be causing this to happen?  We have also noticed that when you print from some documents that the formatting will get screwed up.

Please let me know if you can offer any help.

Thanks,

What OS are you using ?
Where is your spool area ?
How much disk space is avaliable for spooling?

Could you please look in explorer at the disk properties for free space. Also check if the disk is partitioned; it could be that the OS partition is running full.

After browsing for your problem, most seem to think that a defrag of your drive helps.

None of that stuff worked for me because the above link wasn't available on the Brother site.  I guess I probably found the same solution by searching within the Brother site and anyway have copied it here:

"If you're still getting the same Error Message, please change the setting of the "Print Processor" following the instructions.

Click "start" of the Windows® XP.
Select "Printers and Faxes".
Right click on the Brother Printer icon and select "Properties".
Select "Advanced" tab.
Click on "Print Processor,,," button.
Select "WinPrint" and click "OK".
----------
All of the following did NOT work for me:
- deleted/reinstalled the driver (which is from May 2002),
- altered Page swapfile size,
- moved the spooler folder to another drive,
- defragged the drive
- did a scan disk on the drive (requiring a reboot)
