OK, my buddy really wants to get on the internet at work, just to check on something.. He has been shooting me emails asking me what to do to get on. I just had him run through the Internet wiz  Start/Run/ Inetwiz     and select connect using Lan and Automatically discover proxy... Still, he can not connect after all that is done. What else could he try?? What information would he need from the system admin to get on the interent?? I would love to help him since he has done many favors for me in the past.. Does anybody have any idea what I can do to help him get on the intneret?? He can send and receive emails so there must be some kind of connection going on there. Thanks in advance..

what is the error message when viewing websites ?

how is he connected to internet through LAN or thru router or what ?

Do you know if he needs to use proxy ?

Do you know if there is any restriction for him to use the internet ? Make sure he checks that first.

Is there any firewall involved and if yes , can he temporarily shut it down and check ?

he is connected through a lan, dont know about the proxy, and he is getting a symantec security box popping up when he tries to get on IE... oh well it seems like he needs to know a lot of information to try and get on the net... I will ask him these questions, but I highly doubt he will email me back with correct answers.. He doesnt know much about computers...

>> he is getting a symantec security box popping up when he tries to get on IE

can he disable symantec temporarily and see if internet would work. Looks like there is a firewall and it is asking him permission to connect to internet and he is not giving it permission so obviously he wont be able to connect

yeah he gets a logon screen wherever he goes.... His administrator obviously doesnt want anybody on the internet.. He was trying to workaround that. I told him to ask the sys admin to let him check the  auction really quick.. I guess he wants to bid on an item that is on eBay... he cant disable symatec

Your only hope is to ask him to ask his system administrator.. Make sure you donot violate any rules of an organistion by getting around those rules
