Is USB Legacy support enabled in the BIOS? Without that, you won't be able to work any form of HID through USB (aparently). You could always reset the CMOS of the mobo. It's usually called SW/1 (CMOS Clear) or something like that.
One state (pin O and 1) means clear CMOS (or not clear)
Other state pin 1 & 2 [or nothing shorted] means not to clear SMOS (or clear it)
To confirm which way it should be, take a look at the book of your mothierboard. Do this, and then you should be able to get into your CMOS and enable 'Legacy USB devices' [or something with looks like this].
Cheers

accepted answer by mistake not sure whit i was doing.to your question yes .I replaced bios chip.it still does not reconize any keyboard tried three of them. even tried ps/2 with usb adapter same thing .remember I CANT change cmos setting or bios setting if it wont reconize keyboard even two usb ports on motherboard dead or disable in bios two usb in front is a hub or plugs into motherboard.only one that works atleast reconize usb mouse but no keyboard. sorry about mistake
Have you tried the keyboard in another computer? It sounds to me like it may be broken. Also, on motherboards with USB only, USB legacy keyboard support is by necessity on at all times and is not user-selectable, so that wouldn't be your problem. I'd recommend testing the keyboard out somewhere else, and even if it seems to work, I"d try and borrow another USB keyboard and see if it will get you going. Also, PS/2 with a USB adapter will usually not support legacy standard, and as such, would not work for your situation.

yes i have all three of them works perfectly on two other computers.tried brand new one from friend today. same thing.no keyboard.also ran mcafee emergency boot disk to check for boot virus or something.and of course it reads press any key to continue.back to square one cant press any key if you know the rest.oh i have even tried them on my laptop. they work fine thinking maybe motherboard now.
IT does kind of sound like the motherboard may have just broken. The only thing you can try at that point is to reset the bios and then try to run the bios flash on it. There are instructions on the GAteway website for running a silent BIOS update which requires no keypresses. Unless it's a busted hardware issue, that should work it out, but it does really sound like the USB port(s) may have blown.

Thanks for your help, it was my usb ports on motherboard all the time.found same board on E-bay brand new for hardly nothing.will be ariving soon.its a friends computer so its his money.thanks again
1) Does the computer otherwise work but you need to change a BIOS setting (and more importantly is the keyboard working)
2) Is the keyboard directly connected to the motherboard? i.e. not going through any kind of USB hub etc...
