Getting ASP .Net to work on my machine

When I attempt to create a new web project I get the following error...

Visual Studio .Net has detected that the specified web server is not running asp .net version 1.1 You will not be able to run asp .net applications or services.

I am running version 1.1 of the .net framework.  I have MS Visual Studio .net Enterprise architect V1.1 installed.  What do I need to do in addition?

That can happen when you are running IIS and some other web server on the same machine such as apache.
You might have an installation of oracle which installs a web server too.
The other alternative may be that you have installed IIS after you install .NET.  The solution would differ accourding to which of these cases you are facing.

dba netanya,

This is the resolution in your post...
1. Click Start, point to Programs, and then click Control Panel.
2. Double-click Administrative Tools, and then double-click Internet Information Services (IIS).
3. Click Web Service Extensions.
4. In the details pane, click ASP.NET v1.1.4322 in the Web Service Extension list.
5. Click Allowed to change the status from Prohibited to Allowed.

I can get as far as point 2.  openning IIS.  I can't find anything that says 'web service extensions in IIS though.

Also I think it suggests this problem only occurs in windows 2003.  I'm running XP Pro.

All Programs -> Visual Studio .NET -> Visual Studio .NET Tools -> Visual Studio .NET Command Prompt
This will open a Command Prompt with some extra enviroment varialbles set.

The successor to Active Server Pages, ASP.NET websites utilize the .NET framework to produce dynamic, data and content-driven web applications and services. ASP.NET code can be written using any .NET supported language. As of 2009, ASP.NET can also apply the Model-View-Controller (MVC) pattern to web applications
