Do you have a double quote somewhere on your keyboard? (")
The inch symbol is just a double quote (above the 2 on my keyboard), as in
It's 9' 7" long!
It's 9' 7" long!

I think the inch symbol is actually the close double-quote symbol <alt>0148 rather than the symetrical double-quote which isn't available on any normal keyboard. Not sure if EE's GUI even shows it although you can type it into the input box and it displays.
Lets try...
” - inch
" - shift 2

um, when it was on my KB it was at top row. As far as my keypad goes, my key '2' does not get other than the numlock off use of 'arrow' movement on screen, like other parts of the key pad itself.
I am unaware of the keypad ever being used for punctuations like that, it's main design is for a quick calculator like functionality. I doubt many calculators will be found to utilize the inch symbol either, even apart from the '2' button.

Who said keypad? I said keyboard...
The questioner said key pad.
Thanks. I'd not have commented, but will do so to point out the somehow my eyes told me it was "keyboard" from the familiarity of symbols associated with numbers at the top. Without there being replies from author, later my eyes saw better it as being two separate words. You two share my favored responses to date, for the extras here:
SWOne > It's 9'
andyalder > ” - inch
If this goes to mod, I do like other responses as well, even the one from rid, for even if not best, it tells
