asked on

How do I determine the number of licenses that are installed on a Win2000 SP4 server?

When I open the Licensing applet in Control Panel, it only appears to allow me to change the type of licensing (i.e. Per Seat or Per Server). Thanks.

I don't have any "tabs" on this Licensing dialog box??? It only has these buttons:

1. OK
2. Cancel
3. Help
4. Replication

There is also a drop-down box that lists two items: Windows Server and Microsoft Exchange Server.

I want to know how many licenses are installed for both of these items. Thanks.

Hi
Is this the only 2000 domain controller? (assuming it 's a domain?). Try looking in control panel - administrative tools - licensing on the 1st DC installed (or the main DC). There really should be some tabs!

There is at least one other DC that I know of. I'll go check this out......

Ok, I've got the Licening dialog box open on anothr domain controller and I see the tabs now. Problem is - it appears there are NO licenses that have been purchased, plus I don't see the proper domain listed. On the Server Browser tab it just lists "Enterprise" and then "Workgroup" as a child node. When I expand Workgroup I see 3 computers, which is no big deal. But I don't see any other computers listed except on the [Clients (Per Seat)] tab. On that tab I see what is likely every other computer on the domain and they are listed as Unlicensed Usage. Does this sound like I'm waaaaaay short on Windows licenses? Thanks.

Windows 2000
Windows 2000

Windows 2000 is an operating system for use on both client and server computers. It is the successor to Windows NT 4.0, and is the last version of Microsoft Windows to display the "Windows NT" designation. Four editions of Windows 2000 were released (Professional, Server, Advanced Server, and Datacenter Server) that shared a core set of features, including many system utilities such as the Microsoft Management Console. All versions of the operating system support NTFS 3.0, Encrypting File System, as well as basic and dynamic disk storage. The Windows 2000 Server family includes support for Active Directory services, Distributed File System and fault-redundant storage volumes.
