552 Requested mail action aborted: exceeded storage

Some customers are getting a "552 Requested mail action aborted: exceeded storage" NDR when trying to send email our domain. We have a Watchguard firewall and are running Exchange 5.5. The users in are domain who are experiencing the issue have not exceeded the limit on their mailbox. Additionally, this problem does not occur every time--sometimes the email gets through. These emails are not being sent with attachments, just text. Based on the NDR's it would appear that the emails are not even reaching our mail servers, but rather they are getting kicked back at the firewall. Any ideas?

Actually, that was pretty close. We have eliminated the proxy altogether, which appears to have fixed the problem. Now we just need a tool to strip attachments.
