Black and white and color in same picture...

Hi All,

I have seen photos where everything will be in balck and white except for a portion which will be in color. Example a tree full of leaves and appels where only the appels are red but the rest of the photo is in balck and white. Can any body tell me how to achive this in Photoshop CS.

Thanks,

To do a Sepia on this, make sure you have not removed the mask, or just make it again, and then you can use part of one of Photoshop's default actions.

Open the Actions palette by choosing Window --> Actions.
In the Actions palette, click the tiny arrow next to the Default Actions set to view the actions in that set.
Scroll down and click the arrow next to "Select Sepia Toning (Layer)."
Scroll down a little more and highlight the last "Make" part of this action.
Click the Play button at the bottom of the Actions palette.

Also, if you haven't begun yet, you could replace the last sentence of my answer with the entire action.

You could also do this manually, but I think you might be interested in looking through the actions that Adobe provides.

an alternative that gives me more artistic control
I'll start with an RGB image:

1.Create snapshot
2.Convert to greyscale - dicard colour information
3.Convert back to RGB - image still appears B/W
4.Set art history tool to use snapshot created at stage 1
5.use any tools you like to paint back the colour - this alows very fine control

You can quite easily modify the image after stage 3 to sepia or whatever using color balance before putting the colour back
