Workstaion logon can't load profile and UTP commands don't work! "Intermittently!"

I have just added a 2003 standard server to the windows 2000 domain.  I am finished with the migration and the 2000 server is no longer on the network.  All works fine but..

The workstations can't load their profile and when I type \\svr-win03-1\data$ at the run line the network share can't be found.  \\svr-win03-1 can't be found either.  If I run ipconfig and release and renew it some times works.  When it works I can logoff and logon and the profile works as well.  The 2003 svr is also the DHCP server.

This is driving me mad.  I have been working on this migration since Firday evening and I am running out of time and patience!  I may have to ghost the server back and try this on a 3 day weekend!

Any help would be greatly appreatiated

give us a "ipconfig /all" from workstation.
does it use the DC as dns server?
did you delete all remaining dns records of the old server?

Please keep in mind that I am a total newbie and have never done this before!

I did not delete the records.. I did this..
I added the 03 box "after the adprep stuff"
Then I made the 03 box a GC
Then I used Ntdsutil to assign all the FSMO's
Then I dcpromoed the 2k box.. here is where my problems started..
The 2k box could not find the 2003 box during the dcpromo.  I messed with it for a hour or so and after messing with DNS on the 2k box and rebooting I could utp to the 03 box.  It was intermittent just like the workstations.  Once I got it going I dcpromo'ed it and moved to the 2003 box.  Took the 2k box out of service.

192.168.1.3 is svr-win03-1 ? this is the W2K3 DC?
>> Additional information..
I have all the updates on the 03 box and have reran the DNS setup a few times with no help.  I thought it worked the first time because when I went back to the workstation it was working!  I have also reset the router and switches.

Here is the nslookup from the server and a workstation

"workstation"
nslookup svr-win03-1
Server:  UnKnown
Address:  192.168.1.3

"server"
nslookup svr-wino301
Server:  svr-win03-1.zupancic.local
Address:  192.168.1.3

Name:    svr-win03-1.zupancic.local
Address:  192.168.1.3

yes svr-win03-1 is AD DC
AD has been upgraded to 2003 AD
>Server:  UnKnown
to resolve this, create a reverse lookup zone for 192.168.0 or what your netmask coresponds to.
can you post a dcdiag please?
I have a reverse of lookup of 198.x.x.x
dcdiag?  can't find that command.
>I have a reverse of lookup of 198.x.x.x
then it's not dynamicaly updateable or something other is wrong. there should be PTR records for each ip address used.

>dcdiag?  can't find that command.
You have to run this on the DC.
ok.. I deleted the zones and reran dns setup.. I set the reverse to 192.168.1.x
I am on the DC and when I go to run and type dcdiag it can't find it
start -> run -> cmd -> OK
in the command window type "dcdiag" and hit enter.
I can't even ping the thing from another workstation.
I just ran nslookup again from the server and I get this:
*** UnKnown can't find nslookup: Non-existant domain
server: UnKnown
Address: 192.168.1.3
>ok.. I deleted the zones and reran dns setup
All ?
this was a little bit too much.
restart the server. it must reregister it's dns records.
c:\Documents and Settings\Administrator.ZUPANCIC>dcdiag
'dcdiag' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable operable program or batch file.
Install the Support Tools from your Server CD.
They include dcdiag.
have to sleep now.
i check in tomorrow again.

I have gave up on a resolution of this problem and have flushed the system partition and am remounting the server.  I will see if that fixes the problem.

Nothing I have treid has fixed the problem.
