My drive goes down after mount timeouts in Veritas netbackup. How can I increase the timeout windows?

My drive goes down and I get these errors in syslog:
Dec 24 23:13:55 garfield tldd[18834]: TLD(0) [18834] timed out after waiting 313 seconds for ready, drive 1
Dec 24 23:14:06 garfield tldd[17512]: Adding media ID 0016L1 to unmountable media list
Dec 24 23:14:06 garfield tldd[17512]: TLD(0) drive 1 (device 0) is being DOWNED, status: Unable to open drive
Dec 24 23:14:06 garfield tldd[17512]: Check integrity of the drive, drive path, and media
Dec 24 23:14:06 garfield tldd[17512]: Removing media ID 0016L1 from unmountable media list

If I up the drive before my client timeout, the backup will complete.  How can I increase the timeout to prevent this?

I apreciate the more detailed aproach.  The server is running Redhat Linux Enterprise and library is a Dell LTO1 20 tape unit with one drive.  I will have to wait till I get back into the office for more information.

The Libary and tape drive are the only units on the scsi bus, and I am running Netbackup Server 5.1.  The timeouts happen when backing up the local machine, so I don't think there is too much about the network that could be at issue.  The server is running a number of other tasks so load could be an issue, however I will be reducing this load considerably later this week.

Thank you,
Charlie Hedlin.
I thought maybe it was a san...

It sounds like it could be a scsi bus or driver issue.

Check for proper termination and cabling would be my first recommendation.

I have proper termination.  I am working with a relatively small (but rapidly growing network) and my main linux server was also doing double duty as a firewall.  I realized the backups failures started when I increased my packet logging levels.

I installed our new firewall today and rebooted the backup server.  It now mounts the tape in 30 seconds.

Thank you.
