desktop losing power after a while

Hi guys/gals,

This is my problem.

I have a DELL Optiplex GX270.
Since yesterday, after using the machine for a couple of hrs, the machine will shutdown abruptly.
My keayboard and mouse will fail to function and I would have to shutdown the main power from the power socket to reboot the machine.

During this time, my power(CPU) light is still on, on my machine, it is in a hanged state.

Once I plug out the power, my machine will be able to boot up for a while before it returns to a hanged stage.

any advice?
Could it be the PSU giving me problems?
or a virus?

Which Operating system you are running on ur system?
nobus

It can be almost anything; Hard or soft. You can try to diagnose the :
-Hard : disconnect all devices not needed for booting, check for the problem, if not, add devices one by one.
-soft : you can start in safe mode, and check for the problem, if it does not show, it is probably driver related
or you can use msconfig  : Start>run, type msconfig,  (in xp : disable everything in startup tab, and in services tab, click hide microsoft services, then click disable all) and reboot

You can also open it, check if all fans are running (cpu, power sup) clean it from dust)

Up to what stage does it boot to?

Can you here strange sounds?

Are there any Status LEDs visible at the back of your PC?
