BrightStor ArcServe V11.1 - corrupted DATABASE name reference???

Hi:

I've installed BrightStor ArcServe base product (V11) and then applied the V11.1 patch. I configured ArcServe to use the existing SQL Server 2000 install (on the same server) as the ArcServe database, rather than the VLDB database. I now have a problem whereby each time ArcServe tries to write to the database, it generates the following errors:

E4101 - Unable to login to database engine. (DATABASE=Žjj6, EC=1722)
Failed to login to BrightStor ArcServe backup database (EC=-1)

As you can see the DATABASE= value appears to be corrupted.

I get no other errors, and the data is successfully written to tape (over 85GB toan SDLT drive) - it's just that nothing is being entered into the database.

I have scanned the Registry for the Žjj6 reference and can find nothing..

I have even completely deleted the "asdb" database from SQL Server 2000 (through Enterprise Manager) and then re-established the SQL database connection to ArcServe by following the steps int he CA ArcServe support document: FAQ340438 - basically stop all ArcServe services with cstop.bat, then run SETUPSQL.EXE and then run cstart.bat. I receive NO error messages when setting up SQL Server using this method - using mixed authentication, and using the SQL "sa" account to create the ArcServe databases, etc...automatically via the wizard.

I'd prefer NOT to completely uninstall ArcServe and re-install it, but that may be my only solution if I can't get rid of this corrupted DATABASE= reference. SQL Server itslef, and all other installed applications work without problems. The server Event Logs shows absolutely NO ERRORS of any type in app or system or security logs, except for these EC=1722 errors placed in the event logs by ArcServe.

I have confirmed the "sa" account password, etc...so I know I'm using the correct password.

I have also run the ArcServe Diagnotic Wizard and then reviewed the results via the Diagnostic Report manager. I see no obvious errors/problems and no reference to this corrupted DATABASE= string.

I even created an environmental variable called RNNAME and set it equal to the server name (suggested in another post I saw). This also has not helped in terms of correctly resolving the DATABASE= name.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks.

Thanks for ther response dovidmichel.

I couldn't really find a solution to this, and opening a ticket with CA wasn't really worth it.

I performed a full uninstall, reboot, reinstall, and THIS TIME I chose to use the built-in VLDB database, rather than linking it to SQL 2000. The whole process only took about 20 minutes..so it was worthwhile...as long as you ensure you save your JOBS, and just re-add them after the clean install.

We have four other ArcServe base product and SDLT installs in our server room, that all use the VLDB database. It's interesting that the one "experimental" install (i.e. using SQL Server 2000 instead of the built-in VLDB database) is the ONLY one I've ever had a problem with...

So..problem resolved due to the re-install and VLDB database choice.

Thanks.
