Are you sure you have opened Port 6112 both for TCP and for UDP ? Also, what is your OS? Are you using Windows XP with Service Pack 2? Is the built in Firewall turned on or off?

here let me clarify his problem, im his cuzin...

him and his cuzin are both behind 1 router, the smc, and both cant play starcraft. They both can log in and get into channels on B.Net but neither of them can join games. Everytime they click on a game, the "game is not responding. The creator has too high latency..." error pops up. Usually this only happens when the host has much lag and has a 6 red bar lag. This is happening to them no matter what game they join. I tried giving them registry edits to change it so each of them went to different ports but it never They both are using Win XP and im not sure about the port/firewall status...

I repeat: recheck software firewalls and router config - TCP and UDP must be forwarded. Also, both machines must use different ports when connecting or it won't work at all.

Ahh it seems Starcraft needs more ports open to run correctly. Open those:

4000 TCP and UDP
6112-6119 TCP and UDP (middle ones inclusive)

Having 6112 open means one person can play.
Having 6112 and 6113 open means two people and so on.
mehta29

yea that previous question was MY question and i eventually got it to work so all three of us could be in the same game...the things is...my memory fails me...
mehta29

and i think just having the two ports open doesnt let them play, starcraft has to be directed to use those certain ports...

^^thats what his port forwarding screen looks like....

maybe if someone can explain to him how to forward ports....like the difference between incoming ports and the trigger ports and the trigger vs data type?

The picture is so small I cannot read it. Can you/someone post a bigger version? I could post an edited version then so he can make his look the same.

Where do you guys live at and can you connect with any other games, like Counter-Strike?

Where they live is not important.

Try to make the screen look like this:

It could be if they live in Brazil or something like that.

Where you live plays a huge part depending on many things.  First off it matters where the server your trying to play on is located, if you live in Britain and am trying to join a server in California it is gonna be slow even if you have a fast source.  That is why most new games split up your choices between East Coast and West Coast for north american users and also have different servers for international users.  I live in Central-North Manitoba with a T2 connection, and at best it runs with an avg. ping of 120 (for a server in New York) while when I play on a server in Winnipeg my ping is down to 25-30.  So location does matter BIG TIME! Dealing with this problem could be as simple as location, connection type, updating, server problems(for user or provider), or simply a very sporadic connection such as a T2 or Satelite connection.  Routers generaly do not prove to menacing in game latency.

fenilshah20, you still there? Any success?
Wojciech Duda

Or mehta29? Can you post a screenshot of his port forwarding screen?

I don't know whether this is relevant or not but I found when I installed a router in my home that I couldn't connect to any games on Age of Empires II no matter what I did with opening ports on the router etc.

I solved it so that I could play by setting my PC up with DMZ on the router which basically allows all internet traffic to pass through it. However, you can only set one PC per WAN IP address. Luckily, I'm the only one im my house that plays online games...

Hope that helps,
