After a certain number of procesor cycles (this is after executing a number of procesor commands) procesor reset him self.<br />

to prevent procesor for reseting u mout reset watch dog timer<br />
( u must do some code in your code to prevent watch dog to reset procesor)<br />

this is becouse if in your software have some error and procesor loop in death phase or something else abnormaly occur<br />
normal code not be executed so and watch dog timer not bi reseted<br />

in that case procesor watch dog will be reset procesor and software will be automatic out of dead lock<br />

Yes in some applications software watchdog is not adequate since it will not recover from system faults. Often remote systems are designed by clueless amateurs to save money. When the system locks up, and a service call is impossible or very expensive, cheap in no longer ecomomical.

&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;So in adition for almoust all &nbsp;of the pic procesor have a hardware watch dog timer which is wery relaible and on every software lookup response is 100% . At least i dont have any problems with MICROCHIPS &nbsp; watch dog .<br />

I use Watch Dog timer in my development.<br />
<br />
The Watch Dog Timer is a timer that runs independantly of other chip functions. &nbsp;With the Watch Dog Timer enabled, the Timer will count down and reset the Microcontroller unless you reset the WD timer first in your code.<br />
<br />
Your Code should continually reset the WDT... if your code ever gets in to an endless loop where it can't reset the watch dog timer... then the Watch Dog Timer will time out and reset your Microcontroller for you.<br />
